All the productivity honks say that you should never start your morning with email or else risk getting sucked into putting out unimportant fires. I often do it anyway. However, what I also find is that the mornings that I start out on Hootsuite - checking Facebook and Twitter, I often look at the clock see its 10am and ask myself - where did the time go? On the flip side though, I dont consider time spent on Facebook and Twitter (in moderation) to counterproductive in my line of work and Ill tell you why.
